Lighter, stronger, greener: World's first 'carbon concrete' building completed

German architect Henn has joined forces with the Technical University of Dresden to complete the first building made from “carbon concrete”, which is reinforced by carbon fibre instead of steel. Much lighter and stronger than normal concrete, the carbon variety is claimed to cut the embodied carbon of a structure by half owing to the smaller quantities required. The carbon fibre is used as a matrix that a mixture of concrete and polymers is poured into. According to Henn, this gives a concrete that is four times lighter and four times stronger than normal, allowing thinner and more flexible designs....
