A UN-backed project to develop a floating city has been proposed for the seas off Busan in South Korea to pioneer a new mode of living amid climate-related sea-level rises. Dec 2021 Last week, the city government signed an agreement with Oceanix, a company founded by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels Group, and UN-Habitat. The plan is to build a city made from hexagonal modules that would be stable enough to resist a category five hurricane. A luxe, eco-friendly floating oasis could be coming to a city near you—if Anthénea has anything to say about it, that is.   Traditional power generation is not ideal for marine exploration challenges, but the solution may be in the water’s motion. Researchers have developed sphere-based triboelectric nanogenerators that can be incorporated directly into navigational buoys to provide electricity from ocean waves. To find a power source for buoys, look no further than the ocean itself. During the AIP Publishing Horizons — Energy Storage and Conversion virtual conference, which will be held August 4-6, 2021, Cátia Rodrigues, from the University of Porto, will discuss the prospects of using power generators in the ocean to address the energy concerns of marine exploration. The presentation,...

The partly public platform will be a fresh new destination for New Yorkers and its visitors for sports and leisure, communication, learning, and so much more. It’s expected to open sometime around 2022.         Since our population increases but the land doesn’t, populated cities need to get creative on expanding to fit this growing number of people and their needs. As a solution, many coastal cities are resorting to floating architecture. For example, Penang is building a 4,500-acre floating sustainable city; the Copenhagen Harbor in Denmark will soon have a cluster of floating island parks; Qatar is considering a rotating...
