Milan-based Energy Dome’s power-storage system promises highest round-trip efficiency yet for long-duration energy storage, CEO Claudio Spadacini tells Recharge Italian start-up Energy Dome says that its new long-duration “CO2 battery” system, which only uses off-the-shelf equipment will achieve a levelised cost of storage (LCOS) of $50-60/MWh in the next few years. That would be more than twice as low as the LCOS of lithium-ion batteries — $132-245/MWh, according to Lazard — and almost twice as cheap as current long-duration storage market leader Highview Power’s CRYObattery ($100/MWh, according to a 2019 interview with Recharge). Chief executive Claudio Spadacini tells Recharge that Energy Dome's thermodynamic liquid-CO2 system...

3D printing has become the hottest new construction technology of the past few years, with houses being laid down in California, Texas, New York, Mexico, Canada, Italy, and Germany, to name just a few. There’s no doubt it’s an efficient, low-cost way to build durable homes, with the added bonus of a wow-factor (which may soon expire given how fast the method seems to be proliferating). But one company is taking a totally different route to affordable, easy-to-build housing: foldable homes. If, like me, your first thought was “Foldable? That doesn’t sound like something I’d want to live in, or something anyone should live in, for that matter”—hear...

Tesla -

Tesla has started to push a new software update to its fleet today, and it’s one of the bigger ones with several new features, including Disney+, Car Wash Mode, hotspot capability, and more.   AD   For years now, Tesla has been leading the auto industry when it comes to over-the-air software update capability. Much like the smartphone industry, the automaker regularly releases software updates with new features and UI improvements to the in-car and ownership experience. Often, those software updates are quite small and only add a few barely noticeable improvements, but now and again, Tesla does push some...

aging -

Scientists have discovered that the protein ubiquitin plays an important role in the regulation of the aging process. Ubiquitin was previously known to control processes such as signal transduction and metabolism. Prof. Dr. David Vilchez and his colleagues at the CECAD Cluster of Excellence for Aging Research at the University of Cologne performed a comprehensive quantitative analysis of ubiquitin signatures during aging in the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans, a nematode worm broadly used for aging research. This method—called ubiquitin proteomics—measures all changes in ubiquitination of proteins in the cell. The resulting data provide site-specific information and define quantitative changes in ubiquitin changes...
