self -drive, Tesla -

esla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta software has leaked, and it’s being passed around in the Tesla hacking community. Fortunately, it’s not for any nefarious reason. As of now, Tesla’s FSD Beta software is only being tested internally and as part of the automaker’s “early access program,” which includes some Tesla customers. It allows the driver to enter a location in the navigation system. The vehicle will attempt to drive itself to the location with constant supervision by the driver, who remains responsible and needs to be ready to take control at all times. CEO Elon Musk has been promising a...

Scientists found the newly discovered single-celled archaea living in hot spring sediments Earth’s hot springs and hydrothermal vents are home to a previously unidentified group of archaea. And, unlike similar tiny, single-celled organisms that live deep in sediments and munch on decaying plant matter, these archaea don’t produce the climate-warming gas methane, researchers report April 23 in Nature Communications.   “Microorganisms are the most diverse and abundant form of life on Earth, and we just know 1 percent of them,” says Valerie De Anda, an environmental microbiologist at the University of Texas at Austin. “Our information is biased toward the organisms...

electric vehicles -

Electric vehicle stocks are struggling overall due to the continued global semiconductor shortages and supply chain barriers. However, Real Money's Jim Collins says there's more than one way to play the burgeoning market than just Tesla. Investors can capitalize on success by investing in the companies that will underpin the entire sector.  Companies that build products and technology for the EV market without actually manufacturing the cars themselves may offer investors opportunities they haven't considered. Collins writes: "In the interest of presenting some compelling emerging growth ideas in this mega-cap-dominated market, I decided to run with the ball myself." All of the...

green hydrogen, solar energy -

The research has been published in the journal Advanced Energy Materials and details how the researchers used leading innovations in next-generation ‘tandem’ solar cells, combined with advances in electrolysis techniques to achieve a solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of greater than 20 per cent. The researchers used low cost silicon-perovskite ‘tandem’ solar cells optimised for the production of hydrogen, which combined two types of solar cells layered on top of each other to achieve a combined efficiency of 24.3 per cent – an efficiency higher than most conventional silicon solar cells. The team then combined the high-efficiency tandem solar cells with low-cost catalyst materials...

solar desalination, solar domes, UAE -

The first solar dome plant is under construction in Saudi Arabia 71 percent of the Earth is covered in water, but only 3 percent of that is freshwater. The effective desalination of seawater at a mass scale would clearly be a world-changing achievement, celebrated the world over. With that goal in mind, London-based Solar Water PLC recently signed an agreement with the Saudi Arabian government as part of the country's clean future $500 billion "NEOM" project. The company is building the "first desalination plant with solar dome technology", a CNN Arabia report (translated on Solar Water PLC's website) explains.   A future of...
