The Birth Of Synthetic Intelligence | David Shapiro | Escaped Sapiens #54
Progress in AI development seems to be accelerating, and we might be living through a period in human history that is every bit as significant as the agricultural and industrial revolutions. We might be witnessing the dawn of synthetic general intelligence. In this conversation I speak with David Shapiro who is an AI researcher and YouTube content creator. We discuss the current state of the art LLMs, and the inevitable rise of autonomous AI given current global economic competition. We cover the social implications in the near term and existential threats in the long term, as well as alignment and...
NEW GPT-4 Function Calling Model!
OpenAI have introduced "Functions" for GPT-4 and GPT-3.5-turbo. The new feature allows these chatbot LLMs to read a list of Python (or any other programming language) functions and use them as tools. This function calling feature is available only in the latest releases of GPT-4 and GPT-3.5-Turbo (0613). 📌 Notebook Link: https://github.com/aurelio-labs/cookbook/blob/main/gen-ai/openai/gpt4/gpt-4-functions.ipynb 👋🏼 NLP + LLM Consulting: https://aurelio.ai 🎙️ Support me on Patreon: https://patreon.com/JamesBriggs 👾 Discord: https://discord.gg/c5QtDB9RAP Twitter: https://twitter.com/jamescalam LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamescalam/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jamescalam/ 00:00 New GPT-4 and ChatGPT Functions 01:13 Function Calling in OpenAI Docs 01:43 Implementation in Python 03:25 Creating a Function for GPT 4 04:37 Function Calling Instructions...
Sam Altman's World Tour, in 16 Moments
Missed by much of the media, Sam Altman (and co) have revealed at least 16 surprising things over his World Tour. From AI's designing AIs to 'unstoppable opensource', the 'customisation' leak (with a new 16k ChatGPT and 'steerable GPT 4), AI and religion, and possible regrets over having 'pushed the button'. I'll bring in all of this and eleven other insights, together with a new and highly relevant paper just released this week on 'dual-use'. Whether you are interested in 'solving climate change by telling AIs to do it', 'staring extinction in the face' or just a deepfake Altman, this...

A Comparative Review of AI Art Tools: Lexica, Midjourney, and Bing
In this age of digital creation, AI-based tools have become a vital part of our toolbox, allowing us to generate incredible works of art, designs, and animations. As an avid user of such technologies, I recently embarked on a quest to create images of my beloved Miniature Pinscher, Pip Squeak, using the AI tools Lexica, Midjourney, and Bing. For output comparison between the image generator tools, I maintained a consistent simple prompt across all three platforms: "a black and tan miniature pinscher with pointy ears wearing a superhero cape" Lexica Firstly, let's talk about Lexica, a relatively new player...
